At Tuesday’s Full Council meeting (10th December), Labour councillors voted down a Conservative motion calling for a fair and transparent consultation on extending CPZ hours and introducing new zones in Greenford.
Labour claim to be open, transparent, and inclusive—but their actions tell a different story.
The consultation process is anything but open. It appears designed to stifle objections, offering no clear "no" option and seemingly engineered to deliver results aligned with Labour's agenda.
Transparency is also lacking. Key parking pressure survey results have not been shared in full with residents.
Data obtained by Ealing Conservatives shows that Greenford Town’s parking occupancy peaks at just 60% on weekends, primarily between midnight and 3am—when the proposed CPZ wouldn’t even operate.
In Zone W (Ealing Broadway and Hanger Hill), occupancy barely reaches 36%. These figures undermine the need for changes and should have been shared so residents could make informed decisions.
Despite protests outside the council chamber and opposition from local residents, Labour councillors—including those representing affected Greenford wards—voted against the motion. Councillors Anthony Kelly, Harbhajan Kaur Dheer, Varlene Alexander, Sanjai Kohli, and Shahbaz Ahmed chose to back a flawed process, ignoring their constituents.
This comes as residents face mounting financial pressures, with pensioners particularly hit hard after Labour cut the winter fuel allowance, further straining household budgets.
The decision highlights the growing divide between Ealing Labour and the people they are meant to serve. Residents are now demanding accountability, transparency, and a genuine voice in shaping their communities.
Will Labour listen, or will they continue to disregard the will of the people?
